NYFW: STYLE, RUNWAY, TRENDS

MY STYLE

I played around with accessories this season and pushed the boundaries. I stepped out of my comfort zone a little for my favorite look, I was rocking a baseball cap with a silk square scarf, and my vintage suit set. The cap gave the vintage look of the 50’s a new updated twist. Pairing it with some Prada sneaks helped pull the look together. What I love most about fashion week is the ability to totally be yourself and wear styles you’ve always wanted to try but in the most daring way. Fashion week is where I get to test trends and see what I will be rocking for the season. I have documented some of the best looks and trends from new and seasoned designers. Scroll down for photos and my take on the shows.

NANUSHKA

The New Designer To Love: You know when you fall in love with a brand on Instagram, and then you finally see their presentation in person and then you just start mad stalking them from how in love you really are… right? Ok well thats me with Nanushka. Something about seeing the designers vision in person with models, music, and an aesthetic set up, makes you appreciate the artistry and understand the vision even more.

Nanushka captivates minimal fresh looks but with innovative details like making a puffer jacket out of vegan leather, or a romantic vintage dress made with crocodile embossed faux leather or wood earrings. She mixes elements you wouldn’t normally have seen put together all while making it fresh and effortless.

Trends:

  • Acid washed beige denim
  • Leather like materials: pants, skirts, dresses
  • Wood statement earrings
  • Bucket style belt bag
  • Silks
  • Dropped/lowered shoulder hem lines

Makeup trends: Clean glowing skin

Fun fact: Last season, Nanushka became the first Hungarian brand to be sold on Net-a-Porter

MILLY

Milly is right up my alley of current designers I’m obsessing over! She relates her clothes to current situations happening in our time. This MILLY FW18’ was all about expressing a woman’s individuality and her bold strength. Her music selection was uplifting and kept with the “I’m a boss bitch” vibe that complimented the designs so well.

Trends:

  • Bold Colors
  • Polished Looks with high shine material
  • Chunky multicolored sequins
  • Complimenting shades (e.g. eggplant, fuscia maroon, pink)
  • Lime Green and Yellows
  • Oversized suited coats

Makeup Trends:  Effortless no makeup and high glow on skin

TIBI

Backstage Experience:

I had the honor of going backstage to Tibi and attending the show. Tibi was my first backstage experience and it was SO DOPE! (See vlog)

Being a creative myself I found it so intriguing to see how the process and vision was like backstage. I got a chance to talk to the makeup artists who talked about TIBIs makeup looks. I was also able to witness the model catwalk rehearsal which had a huge board with the words written “Strong Fast Walk! Confident” (which is what every girl needs to embody in her walk) ;D

Trends:

  • Oversized but structured suit looks
  • Modest dress silhouettes
  • Scarf prints
  • Neon primary color blocking
  • Sweaters and skirts

Makeup:

  • Neon makeup trends with clean face and blush
  • Electric blue winged liner with violet lilac underneath
  • Neon pink liner

BEVZA

Optical Illusion:

Bevza’s FW 18’ pieced together light fabrics with digitally printed pieces to give the effect of animal skins with structured lines. It was super dope because at a glance you would think it’s crocodile leather but up close you realize it’s actually printed onto the fabric of a puffer coat. Her style is very eco friendly as well and she uses eco-down in her puffers to keep them animal free. She played with femininity and had flowy pieces paired with sharp suit looks.

Trends:

  • Large oversized shoulders
  • Sharp suit looks with dropped lapel and belt bags
  • Silk ties with distinctive seams/cuts

TADASHI SHOJI

Notes:

Tadashi Shoji delivers bold looks with high intensity primary colors along with pleated draping, accents of velvet, lace hidden behind transparent chiffon. All of Tadashi Shoji looks embraced the woman silhouette.

Makekup:

  • Bold lip and gold eyeshadow across the lid
